Born 1964 in South-Germany, growing-up in Frankfurt am Main. 1983 receiving the Higher Education Entrance Qualification, Frankfurt am Main.
From 1983 until 1987 Studies & Diploma ‚ESMOD Ecole Supérieure des arts et technique de la mode‘, Paris. Returning to Frankfurt in 1988. First experiences working several years as fashion-buyer (high-frequently stays in Paris) with B2B-Business developments.
Since 1998 first keep-in-touch with the fur trade business. Activity as free-lance editor for an international renowned Fur Magazine in collaboration with the International Fur & Fashion Fair, Frankfurt, and MIFUR / TheOne Milano Fur Fair, Milan.

The Merzbacher Collection totally encompasses around 450 paintings. Since 9th October, 2021 with the grand opening of the new ‚Chipperfield‘ extension-building, Kunsthaus Zürich, are presented moreover 70 masterpiece-paintings and 7 sculptures as permanent loan to the Kunsthaus Zürich for the upcoming 20 years. The fruit of a long-term cooperation between Werner Merzbacher and Kunsthaus Zürich featuring in a ‚Feast of Color‘ key-figures of Impressionism, Expressionism, the ‚Fauves‘, ‚Brücke‘ and ‚Blaue Reiter‘, Futurists and Constructivists, and as more recent positions from Lohse next to Immersive Art-installation ‚Pixel Forest‘ by multi-media artist Pipilotti Rist, which is the latest acquisition (2020) by international renowned art collector Werner Merzbacher.
